Cyclocross

dirty game

is there anything better than a fast lunch ride in the sun, followed by an overflowing bowl of whole wheat spaghetti, flooded with so much sauce that one bearded little microbe build himself an arc so that he might survive, while all of the sinner microbes drowned?  yes there is.  it is what i just said, [...]

troll 2 movie review

alright, troll 2, let’s do this thing. before i roll the movie and type out everything that happens and call it a “review,” like i usually do, i want to let you all know that, somewhere in my past, the idea was planted in my head that this was supposed to be the worst horror movie ever made.  [...]

Sun-Soaked, Cloud-Free Awesomeness

If this past year had been my first spring/summer west of the Cascades, I would be packing up and leaving. The clouds and unrelenting rain have been soul-crushing. The curtain lifted the week after July 4th and we've been outside every day since.

Gone Fishing

My father always said his greatest failure was failing to instill a love of fishing in me. I grew up fishing on some of the best trout fishing rivers in Colorado, but my heart was always atop the peaks that towered above the streams.

Mt. Hood Madness: June 10-11, 2010

With the recent heat wave in Portland, it was so nice to arrive at the cabin on Friday night to a nice cool evening on the deck with no mosquitos. It was pretty much paradise. As was the weekend of riding. We decided to do a pre-RAMHOOD (ride around Mt. Hood) on saturday. A 87 mile road ride with 8500 feet of climbing. It was amazing weather, great views, good friends and just plain fun. A bit of suffering of course, but a great day on the bike.

six day – days four, five and six

the alpenrose six day ended last saturday, and at this point, i doubt you all care to hear the details any more than i care to share them yet again, but since i covered the first few days, i feel like i can’t move on (blogularly) until i finish it off. i challenge you to not be pumped after an introduction like that… sorry, my mood is [...]

4th of July Fabulousness!

Our plans to go to Whistler and learn how to 'huck' and play in the dh park were thwarted by my crash in WI and my lingering sore ribs. And to top it off, I had acquired some kind of bacterial infection on my vocal chords and was speechless (literally), coughing (which hurt), and hacking up nastiness. Lovely start to the long weekend. But we were cabin bound. Tim still took Friday off and we had 4 days of fabulous cabin time and bike riding. Life is good. We were joined by friends off and on. Recruited some overnight guests from the trail on Sunday: Brooke and Chris.

2 For 2

For my last 2-rides I been rained on both times while up in the Blue Mtns...cold also, enough so that I did not have the option to stop too long or I would chill down - so I rode in the rain. I am thankful I carry a rain jacket, which made these adventures much more pleasant.

Getting Back to Business

After the 8-hr race I took a few weeks off the bike, not on purpose mind you, but life happens in the most unpredictable ways which can circumvent the best mental plans to ride...OK I admit I was a tad lazy too.

six day – day 3

yesterday, the world’s greatest madison team was a bunch of mushroom cloud laying mutherfuckers, mutherfuckers! . . and by that i mean we blew up – hard - and forced the other teams to ride their track bikes through the clouds of debris left over from our vaporized racing ability and over the nuke shadows of our [...]
