Ironclad took the dirt and the pavement at Ye Oulde Raceway once again and had some great results all around. The women’s trio of Lana, Deann, and Anna took 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Dave D rocked the masters and Brian Barker as well. Dave Monnig and Gerow-san hit the dirt to finish very well in their categories.
Gotta love these summer nights at PIR, the two tone of dirt and pavement, seeing really bad kits, enjoying frosty beverages, it all goes so well together.
Only 3 of us could actually stand after the 4th of July, so Deann Krill, Ryan Smith, and Crawfy made their way down south the Eugene to contest the Firecracker Criterium, and they scored, 3rd, 4th, and 3rd respectively to bring home some BAR points. The holiday weekend certainly affected the fields as they were fairly light, but the Greenhill Tech Park is a great place to have a crit.
Pics and more coming soon.
In an attempt to increase participation, the Idaho State RR was moved to June for 2009. The gruelling event had been held in late August for the better part of the last ten years, and it was hoped that shifting the event from the dog days of summer would infuse some fresh blood in the bragging rights only race.
(this post has lots of swearing in it, be warned)
Yep, you read that right. Fuck cancer. In the face. Why should we be nice to it, or show it any candor whatsoever? Nay, we say, nay. Fuck you, cancer. You wish to fuck with us, then the reaction will be ten fold. You started this crap, and Kira is going to finish it. You’ve clearly picked the wrong adversary this year, pal.
The office has called for an emergency landing as there is actually smoke coming from the cockpit….we’re not sure what it is. Looking around at presstime, I see half the team huddled rodent style in a mass nap in Dave’s cubicle, Gerow is tinkering with what looks like an explosive, Ryan is slathering a slab of ribs in bbq sauce (I guess we know what the Tuesday lunch will be), Lana is luring babies into the crock pot, and there’s some of us in the basement doing god knows what. Anyhow….
An awesome day all around for all squads today, lead by Ryan Smith’s win in the men’s 3 race, showing a clear pair of wheels to the field after the the team softened up all the contenders with repeated attacks. Several top 5’s, top 10’s, and a win highlight the day. More words and pics coming soon.

The pink bar tape is the message
And while in all for one, one for all mode, we managed to hand out a few ass kickings as well, most notably Johannes Weber’s 2nd place in the 4’s, Anna Clark’s 6th in the W4’s, and David Monnigasaurus’ 5th in the 3’s! No DFL’s and hard efforts by the rest of the squad. Nice work, lads and lassies.
For the second time in 2009 a major stage race opened with a Panorama Point Prologue. Just like the Redlands race, the Mt Hood Cycling Classic begins with a short run up to a scenic vista named Panorama Point. However, instead of looking out over a mass of Southern California urban sprawl, this vista offers a breathtaking view: two giant volcanoes bookending the confluence of the East and West forks of the Hood River, and an endless stretch of delicious fruit orchards.
Firstly, let it be said that without the crack support team of Eva, Tricia, and Deann, we’d all be dead now and that’s a fact. Those three were on the spot with all food, drink, cold post-race towels, and everything else, so a mighty team-wide thanks to them for their excellent job and long hours!
